Harbour Town Shares Santa Selfies

1212santaIt might be fair to say selfies are big right now. Oxford Dictionaries pronounced the word, defined as “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website,” as its 2013 word of the year. And why not? Just about everyone has a high-quality camera in their pocket, and capturing life through their lenses is becoming second nature.

That’s not to say there’s no room for traditional posed photography, but one center betting on shoppers wanting an alternative to Santa’s Village and associated lines this year. Harbour Town Gold Coast is encouraging shoppers to ‘BYO – Bring Your Own’ cameras for a shot with its very mobile Santa Claus.

Throughout the season, Harbour Town’s Santa takes trips around the center on his custom-made sleigh. Making stops to meet and greet with little ones everywhere he goes, he’s happy to pose for selfies taken by proud parents.

Jessica Buckley, Marketing Manager of Harbour Town Gold Coast, said it’s all about providing Gold Coast families with a free alternative to the often-costly Santa photos and still giving children the chance to meet their favourite white-bearded character.

“Given technology is so advanced these days, everyday people can capture even the most special moments on their own devices and produce high-quality shots. We encourage parents to bring their smartphones and digital cameras and take the reigns as a professional photographer for a day. Then it’s just a matter of choosing their favourites, printing them off in their own time and distributing to their friends and family – it’s both cost and time efficient.”
