Governor’s Square’s Own Comic-Con
In Clarksville, TN, Governor’s Square Mall is a bit out of the way for events like San Diego Comic Con. That’s not to say there isn’t a large audience out there eager for their own convention, however—an audience the center bet on when it held its first Comic and Sci-Fi Show earlier this month.
It isn’t exactly on the same scale, but it does sound like a ton of fun. Dozens of dealers and exhibitors attended, with comic books and art. Plenty of popular franchises like Doctor Who, Star Wars, and Star Trek were represented.
Fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead also had a spot of luck: Melissa Cowan, the bicycle girl zombie from the first episode of the show was on-hand for free autographs. Also there for signings and sketches was Drew Geraci, artist of many popular titles including Nightwing, Iron Man, Mass Effect and more.
During the weekend of the event, the center coordinated another special group: the 501st Legion Mid-South Garrison. The 501st Legion is a volunteer group of insanely dedicated (and popular) Star Wars cosplayers that promote the universe of Star Wars and raise money for charity in the doing.
At Governor’s Square, the garrison hosted a charity meet and greet. Fans could take pictures with Star Wars characters for a $5 minimum donation to Dreams and Wishes of Tennessee, a non-profit that grants the wishes of children and young adults who have a cancer relapse or a second life-threatening illness.
