Deerfoot Mall Goes Global for Family Day
Deerfoot Mall took a broad view on “family” for its Family Day celebrations this year—a global view, in fact. Its ‘Discover the World’ Family Day Weekend celebration explored cultures from around the world with the help of GlobalFest Calgary.
Over the course of the weekend, center court was dedicated to cultural performances. Dancers graced the stage for much of the weekend, showing off middle eastern dance, Brazilian Samba, Bollywood styles and more. Artisans and cultural groups displayed traditional clothing from places like Mexico and Sisak-Moslavina County in Croatia. For $5, shoppers could get Henna tattoos in traditional designs. The sounds of the Croation Golden Strings Band and the T&T Organettes Steelband filled the center as well.
GlobalFest presented a night of fireworks to start the weekend right, and sold discounted tickets to its big August event.
