Coquitlam Centre Confesses for Contest


Coquitlam Centre is having fun with a local radio station this month, but it’s not through any sort of partnership: the center is participating in a contest.

Virgin Radio holds an annual Fake Film Festival. Participants take films they love and condense them down to 60 seconds, putting together a homemade retelling of the entire film. It’s an interesting way to get the salient points of popular movies without putting in the time, and the festival is always hilarious.

The winner gets $10,000, which is a pretty great prize: so great that Coquitlam Centre decided to get in on it. If it wins, it’s giving the money to Dress for Success, a non-profit that provides interview suits, confidence boosts, and career development to low-income women. If it loses, the center’s still planning a donation—just one that fits more reasonably within its budget.

The center chose Confessions of a Shopaholic (of course!) and showed off some of its great retailers and just a little bit of advertising in the process. Even if it doesn’t win, it’ll draw the attention of plenty of local viewers during the voting process.

It’s a bit unorthodox, but hey, why not get in on the fun? Especially for such a great cause. Shoppers who share the link to the voting page on Facebook get an extra bonus: the chance to win one of five Shopaholic’s Dream Packages, including a $500 shopping spree, a shopaholic party with friends, manicures, mocktails and more. One of those winners will be randomly picked as the Coquitlam Centre Girl in the Green Scarf – picking up the scarf that’s featured in the 60-second film and taking that shopping spree with the center’s Stylist, Catherine Dunwoody.
