Conestoga Shoppers Pick Their Prizes


Part of the challenge of putting together a prize promotion is coming up with packages that will really appeal to your shoppers. Conestoga Shopping Centre’s ‘Live Life With Prizes’ asks shoppers to pick the prizes they’d most like to win.

Each week of the promotion, the shopping center selects a handful of participating retailers and a theme. Shoppers can visit the stores, take photos of the items they’d like to win, and post the photos on the contest’s Facebook page, along with the cost and retailer they found the item at. At the end of each week, the shopping center picks up to seven items to award to the people that posted them.

Last week’s theme was “Live life like a cheerleader,” and the participating retailers were all sports and fitness themed. Participants were asked to share how winning their picks would help them coach, manage and cheer for everyone on their family team. Upcoming themes include “live life in the fast lane,” and “live life like the girl he married.”

Unfortunately, it seems like the contest isn’t attracting a lot of attention so far, with only one of seven potential prizes awarded after the first week. If we were to speculate, we’d guess that a relatively low number of Facebook fans and an external contest application may have hurt Conestoga’s response rate – this contest might have been better suited to a microsite. But it’s a great idea, and we’d love to see it get more attention.
