Coming Together for Christchurch
The recent earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand was devastating to the city, and tragically it claimed many lives, buildings, businesses and livelihoods.
There are a number of fundraising projects underway to support the Christchurch community, including one from Botany Town Centre. This weekend, the center is hosting its first Meet the Community Street Party.
With a community that’s already trying to come together to help a nearby city, Botany Town Centre seems to have put together a great plan. The center has brought together 45 community groups that will connect with visitors, building connections and support networks before disaster strikes. At the same time, volunteers will circulate with buckets to collect donations to the Times Community Fund, which is helping earthquake survivors in Christchurch.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a street party if it was all about information, preparedness and fundraising. The Te Waihono A Kupe kapahaka group will perform to get the party started, and local singers and musicians, the All Star Cheerleaders, the Carter Chan Dance Performance Centre, an accordion band and Scottish country dancers will follow. It sounds like a great day of family fun, and that will certainly get more people out to help those in need as well.
