Do You Believe in Christmas Magic?

1203believeMacy’s is reminding children and shoppers alike that Christmas is a time to Believe.

The original story behind “Yes, Virginia” is as inspiring today as it was over a century ago, and Macy’s is tapping into that inspiration with a half-hour TV special that will air on December 11. The animated feature Yes, Virginia brings us the tale of 8-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon, who wanted the editor the the New York Sun, Francis P. Church, to tell her whether or not Santa existed. His response (coining the phrase “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus”) reminds us all, to this day, of the fantastic power of believe in a cynical world.

Along with the TV special, Macy’s is collecting letters for Santa, and donating $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for each letter they collect. It’s also soliciting shoppers’ reasons to believe — shoppers can submit the stories of why they believe in the magic of the holidays to be entered to win a trip for four to New York City for the 2010 Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.
