Chinook Centre Loves Polar Bears

Chinook Centre is reaching out for a good cause this holiday season, but it isn’t the one you might expect: it’s working on the plight of the polar bear.

The center is raising money for Polar Bears International. It’s offering shoppers the chance to win a trip for four to Churchhill, Manitoba, where they will be taken on a polar bear safari. The full-day event sees visitors educated and entertained by a naturalist speaker, followed by a 5-hour guided excursion into polar bear territory. For every eligible entry received the center will donate $1 to the conservation charity, up to a maximum of $10,000.

Lest you believe shoppers might fail to notice this very good cause, let us allay those fears. The center is exhibiting Christmas decor designed by GH+A Design and refined and fabricated by Heavy Industries: gorgeous, giant polar bear sculptures. Four bears stand in the halls of the center currently, two fully grown and two cubs. The tallest, pictured, is over 25 feet tall, and reaches up to the second storey of the center. You try forgetting about the plight of the polar bears with those great big eyes staring up at you.
