Children Light Up Botany Town Centre
More than 200 children lit up the night at Botany Town Centre earlier this month for the inaugural Botany Light Festival.
The children, students from from Baverstock Oaks Primary, Willowbank School, Mission Heights Primary, Elim School, Botany Downs Primary, Pointview School and Star of the Sea, attended two workshops to learn how to weave and wrap their lanterns. Tutors from Uxbridge Arts Centre worked with the children to help them create the lanterns for the festival. After spending hours creating their own unique lanterns, the children lit them with colored lights and mounted them on bamboo poles to carry them through the parade.
The children paraded their lanterns through the center’s Market Square, with accompaniment from professional fire dancers. The festival also included a community concert starring local musicians and dancers.
Botany Town Centre Senior Marketing Manager Desiree Clark says, “Botany Town Centre is delighted to have been a part of the first Botany Light Festival. It is always a pleasure for us support and help our local community, and we love to see the diverse talent and creativity of our youth.”
