Chapel Street Keeps Staff Shopping Locally

Here’s an interesting idea that’s come out of an Australian shopping district – Chapel Street.

The company that manages marketing and promotion for Chapel Street is looking inwards for its next big marketing . The Local Trader program will allow Chapel Street businesses will be to offer a ‘local trader’ discount to people that work in the district. The hope is that the program will generate local business, with staff staying in the district to shop, as well as rewarding local workers with great discounts.

Australian startup Myzerr.com is the web platform for the promotion. Its ‘Social Network for Rewards’ makes it possible.

The marketing group is currently inviting Chapel Street businesses and local workers to sign up. Members to the program will then be able to download coupons to access savings or to find discounts with the Myzerr iPhone app that brings up a ‘nearby’ map showing locations of businesses providing discounts.

Does your shopping center offer special discounts or rewards for retailers and staff? How has that worked for you?

Very similar to the Sunrise (TV program on Channel 7) concept – where you join the “Sunrise Team” and get a discount when you shop at local/ family businesses.
