Chadstone Goes In For High Fashion Dolls and Drawings

Most malls leave the arts and crafts to the kids, but Chadstone has a unique angle on that: fashion design. As part of its Autumn/Winter 2012 launch the shopping center reached out to Australian fashion illustrator Megan Hess to create a gorgeous one-off black and white fashion illustration.

Sure, that might make a pretty cool per-spend giveaway for its fashionista-heavy market, but the center went one further. All throughout the month of March it held Fashion Collage Creative Workshops. For a $20 entrance fee, shoppers with creative flair were given their own copies of the illustration and the materials needed to customize it to their hearts’ content.

We have to admit, that sounds like a lot of fun. Who wouldn’t want to try their hand at being a fashion designer just once?

Another major part of this fashion season’s launch at Chadstone was POUT, one of the most unusual runway shows you’re likely to see. The Fashion Royalty line was created by Jason Wu in 2000, and features a showcase of 50 couture quality hand crafted high end fashion dolls. The exhibition is presented on a built-to-scale fashion stage inspired by the runways of Paris.

It might sound childish if you haven’t looked into the wild world of couture doll collecting, but if you take the time to check out the work that goes into them you’ll understand why it isn’t just child’s play.
