Canadian Centers Invest in Helpful Holiday Tech

Canadian shopping centers are getting in the holiday spirit, and they’re making use of all sorts of technological treats to make life easier on their shoppers and themselves.

Toronto Eaton Centre is helping shoppers who can’t make it in to the center with their children for time with Santa. They’ve got the jolly old elf on the line for one-on-one Skype sessions. Shoppers can call the center’s Guest Services desk to register their child for a 10 minute session any weekday evening.

While it doesn’t get shoppers into the center, it solves a huge problem for many busy parents. There’s no overstating the value of that.

Meanwhile, Park Royal Shopping Centre is also getting into the business of saving time. It’s introducing Park Smart to help alleviate the always-present challenge of parking. The center has set up a low-wattage FM radio station to broadcast regular updates on parking availability.

To pull this off, the center has broadcasters monitoring the center’s parking CCTV at all times. They’ll have real-time information sent to them from the center’s parking ambassadors as well.

If it’s all still too much trouble, the center is also offering by-donation valet parking. So no matter what the situation, shoppers will be able to get their holiday shopping on without much hassle.
