Broadmeadows Brings Fashion a Sustainable Future

This month, Broadmeadows Shopping Centre will explore the future of fashion with the help of students from the Kangan Institute.

Students are taking part in the center’s Fashion Forward challenge. Designed to engage students in both fashion and sustainability, students have each been given an in-season look from center retailers to challenge themselves against. The goal is to reinvent that look. They must deconstruct it and create something new by upcycling, bringing in recycled, discarded materials, vintage pieces and fabrics and merging them with new designs to create something original.

Not only must their final products be stunningly fashionable, though. They also need to attempt to create less waste and use less unsustainable energy than their fellows. Over the course of 10 weeks, they’ve struggled to create their masterpieces. Now, they’re online for Broadmeadows Facebook fans to judge.

All 110 designs will be modeled in a fashion parade on October 22, which will be hosted by former Miss Australia Erin McNaught. McNaught will also announce the design that won the most hearts in the gallery. The top 20 designs, as chosen by the center’s fans, will also go on to be displayed in center.

Finally, Broadmeadows will donate $1 to Fitted for Work for every new Like it receives in the weeks leading up to the show.
