Branson Landing Goes Without Shoes

425shoesApril 16 was One Day Without Shoes, Toms annual awareness campaign. Inspired by the campaign, Branson Landing worked together with local retailer Tradehome Shoes, the Branson Firefighter’s Association and Branson School District to put together their own afternoon of barefoot walking.

It’s a grassroots effort on its second year. Organizers sell raffle tickets for restaurant gift certificates, show tickets and other goodies, and they take donations. Then participants, dozens of them, walk barefoot through the outdoor shopping center—both drawing attention and raising awareness. As Branson Tri-Lakes News points out, it’s hard to ignore dozens of people walking barefoot through a shopping center.

The money raised doesn’t go to an international organization or charity. It stays in the community instead. Wesley Ingberg, manager of Tradehome Shoes, uses the money to buy as many pairs of children’s shoes as he can. Those shoes get donated to the Branson School District, who keep them on-hand to help out wherever they see a need in one of their students.
