Bramalea City Centre is One of BOMA’s BESt

123bomaBramalea City Centre is celebrating a great new milestone in its sustainability journey. The center has not only been re-certified in the BOMA BESt program, it’s also achieved BOMA BESt Level 4. This makes it the first 1 million+ square foot Canadian enclosed shopping center to earn that certification.

Backing up a step, BOMA BESt is a national certification program developed by the Building and Owners Managers Association of Canada (BOMA). It recognizes and rewards environmental leadership within the commercial real estate industry, particularly for existing commercial buildings. Level 4 means the center has met all the program’s Best Practices in environmental management and scored at least 90 per cent on the BOMA BESt assessment.

“We are thrilled to be recognized for our commitment to the environment,” shares Bao Lu, Operations Manager, Morguard Investments Ltd. “We are proud of our environmental leadership and hope our efforts to improve energy efficiencies will serve as an example to others in our industry.”

Version 2 of the program, launched in January 2012, demands heavier standards of energy and environmental performance in the building assessment surveys to demonstrate the industry’s evolving best practices. The six key areas of environmental performance and management focus on: energy, water, waste reduction and site, emissions and effluents, indoor environment and environmental management system.
