Bramalea City Centre Helps Locals Weather Ice Storm

320icestormWhen your city is hit by a massive, devastating ice storm, holding a spring horticulture event might seem like an uphill battle. Rather than give up, though, Bramalea City Centre embraced the environment it had to work with and turned its spring event into a community rebuilding effort.

Tens of thousands of trees were impacted by the Brampton ice storm, and that’s not even considering the effect on locals’ yards and gardens.

So for BCC Flower Power, the center brought in Carson Arthur, HGTV’s gardening expert, to help shoppers learn how to rebuild their gardens, and had local experts in horticulture, forestry and emergency preparedness discuss tips and tricks for cleaning up after the ice storm. With the snow finally melting, the tips couldn’t have come at a better time.

The center also helped one lucky shopper with her clean-up efforts more directly. It held an online contest asking shoppers to share their pictures of how the ice storm affected their properties. Those that posted the photos on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #bcflowerpower were entered to win a $1000 tree from The Davey Tree Expert Company.
