Biltmore Square Brings Out the Dead

While there was once a social message to be found in Dawn of the Dead, a scathing criticism of our blind consumerism, these days we’re pretty happy with both malls and zombies. They just go together so well.

So Biltmore Square Mall is following in a grand tradition by hosting this year’s Ashtoberfest, a film and music festival that just so happens to include a zombie walk.

It sounds like it’s going to be an amazing night. The legions of the undead will fill the center from 6pm onwards this Saturday. In between moans and the devouring of brains, they’ll play games, compete in costume contests, dine and celebrate. Zombie hunters are also planning to be on the scene.

Four bands will play on the center’s stage, and the cinema at the center will be playing zombie films all evening. Grown up zombies can also partake in a special brew from the theater: White Zombie Ale.

Obviously there are security concerns with holding any such large-scale costumed event after hours, but if you’re going to do it, this is the way to go. Ashtoberfest is a long-running event in the area, and its new partnership with Biltmore Square is downright inspired. Let’s hope the ravening horde stays calm and orderly.
