Bay Street Shoppers Wine, Walk and Relay
On the sunny evening of Saturday, May 18th, shoppers at Bay Street Emeryville enjoyed a charity wine walk & shopping event.
Organized by Director of Marketing Heath McCue, the event ran in support of the American Cancer Society-Relay for Life, which is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It began in 1985 in Tacoma, Washington when Dr. Gordon Klatt walked for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. He raised $27,000 that first year. Since then, Relay for Life events around the world have raised a billion dollars to support programs aimed at eliminating cancer.
Participants in the Bay Street Wine & Walk may not have partaken in a traditional relay, but they raised money while walking nonetheless. Guests enjoyed an evening of wine tasting and hors d’oeuvre samplings amidst the collection of fine stores and restaurants located at Bay Street. The fun filled environment included four wine stations, hors d’oeuvres, free music spun by the Bay Street DJ, raffle prizes, and special shopping offers.
For just $10, each person received a souvenir Bay Street wine glass for sampling, a photo on the step and repeat wall, and a raffle ticket for a chance to win prizes from the center retailers. All proceeds from the Bay Street Wine Walk benefited the American Cancer society, Relay for Life, and the event was sponsored by Weatherford BMW of Berkeley, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Pasta Pomodoro, and California Pizza Kitchen.
