Barnes & Noble Does Discovery Friday
As Cyber Monday starts to look a bit more like the entire week leading up to Black Friday and beyond, brick-and-mortar retailers need to do everything they can to stand out from the online competition. Barnes and Noble is launching its first Discovery Friday, a day of entertainment, deals and the sort of personal gift recommendations that no computer algorithm can match.
Discovery Friday events have been carefully planned to have something for everyone. Each location has signings and discussions planned with well-known local authors. Families can spend quality time together playing board games and puzzles at Barnes and Noble Cafés. Little ones can enjoy story time with books like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, The Day the Crayons Quit, and Thanksgiving Day Thanks. Moleskin will be hosting “Every Reader is a Writer” writing activities and giving away free art journals. Teens can take part in activities that feature their favorite books, like the Divergent series and The Heroes of Olympus.
Stores are also giving out gifts from some of the hottest books of the season. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire just hit theatres, and this Friday Barnes and Noble will be giving out temporary tattoos from the series. Older readers will enjoy discussion guides and movie poster draws for The Book Thief. And that’s just a small sample of what will be given away.
Shoppers who explore Barnes & Noble on Discovery Friday will discover plenty more treats, but the big one will be tucked away in the NOOK Boutique. Display e-readers and tablets will feature a specially-created app just for the day that gives shoppers the chance to enter to win a $1000 shopping spree.
