Argos Sends Online Wish Lists to Santa

UK retailer Argos has had a pretty bad week. After launching a web-app that lets kids create a Christmas wish list that can be sent to family and friends, the retailer was accused of killing the Dear Santa letter.

The situation is not nearly a dire as the Telegraph suggests, however. Santa needs to keep up with the time, and the Argos Christmas Wish List helps update the Dear Santa letter quite nicely. A carefully handwritten note to Santa may be a great keepsake, but the online wishlist offers a lot of advantages. Kids can search through the Argos catalog to find just the toys they want (limited in number in advance by the parent that registers the account), and parents can curate the wish list afterward.

Once the list is ready to go, it can be shared with family and friends who may want to help Santa fill out the gifts under the tree. It keeps track of who’s buying what to save the trip for returns. And best of all, when parents register an account on the site they can nominate a favorite charity. If their names are drawn, both they and the charity of choice with a £5,000 prize, making this a very merry Christmas indeed.

And who’s to say that Santa doesn’t still need a letter letting him know if each little one has been naughty or nice this year?
