Aberdeen Centre Celebrates the Pearl of the Orient

Aberdeen Centre has done an outstanding job with it’s summer exhibitions over the last few years. In 2009, it held The Return of the First Emperor, an exhibition about China’s first emperor, Qin Shihuang. It featured a magnificent sand sculpture of the Great Wall of China. Then, in 2011, the center had, among other things, huge M & M sculptures of the Giza Pyramids and the Great Sphynx.

This summer, Aberdeen Centre is back at it with another look at the history of one of the many cultures of its shoppers. In My Life, Pearl of the Orient – Hong Kong looks back at the great city over the last 60 years. There are many facets to this exhibition, but there’s one that’s sure to grab a ton of attention: a massive, detailed LEGO skyline that looks from Hong Kong’s modern era back to its roots as a small fishing village.

The work will be created by one of the world’s 13 LEGO Certified Professionals, and the only one from Canada, Robin Sather. He’s on site from July 2 – 15 to complete the display with his team. During that time, shoppers have the opportunity help build the mosaic that will form the backdrop for the city skyline.

From skyscrapers like HSBC Bank Headquarters and The Peak Tower to a reconstruction of a Cathay Pacific Airways airplane, the whole thing will be made entirely of LEGO.

Of course, this is just one small part of the big event. Keep an eye out for the next issue of Marketing Trendz, which will take a more in-depth look at In My Life, Pearl of the Orient.
