A Walk for a Cause at Intercity Shopping Centre

Does your shopping center have a great contingent of mall walkers? Intercity Shopping Centre has found a way to use the power of mall walking for a great cause.

This year is the 20th anniversary of the Parkinson SuperWalk, the Parkinson Society of Canada’s major fundraising event. In 2009, $2.6 million was raised nationally through SuperWalk, helping fund 16 new research programs as well as providing resources for education, advocacy and support services to the over 100,000 Canadians living with this debilitating disease. This year, the group hopes to raise $3 million.

Rather than a traditional street and trail walk, the city of Thunder Bay is planning something a bit different for its contribution to the SuperWalk. Walkers on September 16th will walk Intercity Shopping Centre’s Mall Walk. You’ve probably promoted your mall walking program as a safe, climate-controlled activity that’s healthy and fun, and there’s no reason it couldn’t be the same for an important charity walk. With marathon and other running events, the risk would be too great, but a charity walk is just right.
