WINNING THE TEEN VOTE

As the upcoming US election draws global attention, Americans look forward to November to decide their country’s future. Millions in advertising dollars are being spent to encourage citizens, young and old, to get out and vote. But General Growth Properties, Inc, is looking to the one demographic left out of the proceedings – the under 18 crowd.

Teenagers are often big spenders with big opinions, and the 150 malls participating in “UR Votes Count” this fall hope to win them over. The promotion encourages teens to share their opinions with the world by filling out a survey with questions about the Iraq war, the economy, health care, and their pick for President. The teens will also choose one of three charities to receive a large donation. There are prizes to be won, including a $5000 shopping spree.

The promotion kicked off in August at Glendale Galleria in Glendale, California. The kickoff featured rising Disney star Selena Gomez. The actress/singer gives the promotion a fresh young face as she encourages teens to educate themselves about their candidates and the election.
