Polo Park Has Runway Cred

Since early last month, Polo Park’s style team has been hard at work to bring the runway home to its shoppers with the center’s Runway to Realway program. The center has a secret weapon in this task: Swish Productions, a Winnipeg-based modeling agency, has access to top models and can get up-close and personal with the runways. And Swish Productions just so happens to make up part of that style team.

The center’s Facebook page is full to the brim with runway looks that can be duplicated in center, and the professional expertise on display is compelling. Each look is sourced, explained and taken down to its fundamentals, and items that can achieve the same effect are found and shared. The agency shoots its models demonstrating the looks, and shares where (and for what cost) they can be found in Polo Park.

That’s not all Swish has brought with it, though: it has also brought models straight from the runway. The center’s Facebook fans have been introduced to some of Swish’s top discoveries, including Meaghan Waller, 2009’s Canada’s Next Top Model. Waller went on to make a name for herself in the industry, and now she’s come back to Polo Park to shop with Swish and share her picks for some of the center’s best fashion buys.

Meanwhile, Swish Productions is sharing even more on the center’s website, including tips on achieving some of this season’s most striking beauty trends.

Mall of America Hosts The Human Do.ing

With over 60 percent of Minnesotans overweight or obese, modeling healthy living is vitally important. But it’s hard to find a healthy-living role model who resonates with average people when most fitness gurus these days are sleek, aggressive and unforgiving.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota are hoping to change that with The Human Do.ing project this month at the Mall of America. One man, Scott, has pledge himself to living better. And holding him to that pledge is every shopper at the Mall of America, who can visit him at his glass apartment in the shopping center.

It’s part of the Blue Cross do Campaign, which encourages people to make smart health and nutrition choices. Scott is modelling those health-smart behaviors in his apartment, and posting about them online on the campaign’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. While his friends and followers encourage him, he’s encouraging them to join in the project by voting on activities or to joining him at community events. He’s streaming video of his daily successes and struggles, and soliciting tips, suggestions and activities that have worked well for others.

Blue Cross hopes that the campaign will help people build more active, healthier lives. Research shows those who have support from their friends and community are more likely to succeed when adopting better eating, exercise and overall healthy habits and are less likely to be obese. Scott’s adventures as The Human Do.ing will help build community support for healthy habits.

Gap Gives Back With Help From Its Facebook Fans

Gap is asking shoppers what they want to give to the world this holiday season, and it’s helping to make those desires a reality.

The Gap Want campaign has brought several celebrities together for a number of good causes. True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten, Community’s Donald Glover, Foursquare founders Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai, and a number of others have filmed ads for the campaign. For each “like” the videos receive on Facebook, the retailer will donate $1 to benefit a number of charities. Viewers also receive a coupon for 30% off at Gap.

The stars of the videos are also modeling Gap fashions, which are highlighted on the Facebook page for the campaign.

Bramalea City Centre Finds its New Top Model

Bramalea City Centre is looking to make a local woman a new star in the modeling world, and it’s asking its shoppers to help.

The shopping center, along with Citytv’s CityLine, has solicited photos for the new face of Bramalea. To enter, participants submitted photos of themselves with a short essay on why they deserve to win. At the time of this writing, the contest is down to the top five entries, and shoppers are voting for their favorites.

The winner will receive a one year modeling contact with a Toronto-based agency and a featuring role in a Bramalea City Centre campaign. Voters have a chance to win a $500 gift card just for voting. With a chance like that up for grabs, it’s no surprise the entrants have taken to the center’s Facebook page to solicit votes – and shoppers seem to love that personal connection.

Stonebriar Center Rocks with Demi Lovato

As part of General Growth Properties’ Shop Til You Rock campaign, teens at Stonebriar Center got a chance to get some time with Disney star Demi Lovato this weekend.

To kick off the campaign, Lovato performed a special two-song acoustic set earlier this month, and held a meet and greet at three GGP centers including Stonebriar Center. There was quite a bit else for teen shoppers to get up to as well.

At the Rock On Salon teens could get photos of themselves with “Rock Star” hairstyles to show off to their friends. And at Rock the Runway, teens had a shot at a modeling contract with Fusion Model Management. Fashion spotlights, mobile entertainment and deals, and dance-offs rounded out the event. And though Demi was a big draw, The Ready Set got the crowd rocking with a free concert.

All these factors came together to make sure that on August 1st, Stonebriar Center was the place to be for back-to-school shopping.
