Christmas is Heroic at Robina Town Centre

Robina Town Centre is trying out a heroic new take on the Santa Claus story, one with a new ride, a cape and, err, tights. This Saturday, Santa will get a little help from his friends in the Justice League.

Santa’s grand entrance this year will be on the back of a super-charged Batmobile, accompanied by heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman. He’ll make his way to the Enchanted Forest accompanied by Mrs. Claus, members of the Looney Tunes family and several members of DC Comics top team.

That won’t be the last of Batman and Wonder Woman’s duties, though – during the live Justice League Show, they’ll fight off The Joker and Star Sapphire to save the center and Christmas for all.

Add to that a performance from Tap Dogs, face painting and the start of photographs with Santa, and it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Robina Town Centre.

This year also marks the start of a new Christmas attraction at the center—the aforementioned Enchanted Forest. It’s sure to be a magical sight, with over 84 meters of wonderland, filled with cobblestone paths, magical birch trees and thousands upon thousands of fairy lights.

Woodland friends and darling forest-themed furniture can be found by curious children, and storyboards share the story of Christmas. Magic mirrors, wishing ponds (for charity) and more will make the experience all the more wondrous for little ones.

Desert Ridge Lets it Snow

Desert Ridge Marketplace is prepared for a white Christmas, the Arizona climate notwithstanding. It’s teaming up with Radio Disney to kick off Snow What Fun, its nightly snow shows, in just a few short days.

The Radio Disney Rockin Road Show will start things off November 19 with fun activities, games and prizes. There will also be four full snowfalls, eight minutes each, featuring non-toxic, non-staining eco-friendly artificial snow. Those snowfalls will continue throughout the holiday season, twice nightly.

“In Arizona there are a lot of kids and families who have never seen snow before. It’s really a magical experience that puts everyone in the holiday spirit. This year Vestar has extended our snow shows twice nightly in order to make it easier for everyone in the valley to enjoy the experience.” said Denise Hart, Vice President of Marketing. “Vestar Development and Desert Ridge Marketplace are thrilled to bring this holiday experience to its shoppers.”

It’s not all fun and fake snow – the center is also offering free skating on its hybrid ice-skating rink throughout the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Sherway Gardens Santa Experience Goes Beyond the Grotto

It’s that time of year again – Santa Claus is coming to town.

Sherway Gardens is selling tickets for its Santa Experience, due to start in just under two weeks. Have you heard about it before? It’s pretty cool.

Instead of spending a half hour in line for a minute of their child in Santa’s lap, Sherway Gardens sells $5 tickets to give kids a chance to spend some quality time with the jolly ol’ elf. For half an hour, children and their parents can join Santa for an interactive play session with singalongs, dancing and story reading. Children get the chance to share their Christmas wishes with Santa, and parents are given the opportunity to take an informal photo of their little ones posing with him.

Oh, and the kicker? 100% of the ticket cost goes to Sleeping Children Around the World. The charity provides bed kits for children in need. Mats or mattresses, pillows, sheets, blankets, and mosquitos nets, as needed, are provided to kids in developing countries, along with clothes, towels and school supplies. Talk about a merry Christmas for all.

Not only that, but Sherway Gardens encourages participants to bring new, unwrapped toys to donate. For their kindness, the center gives donors a chance to win a special home visit from Santa on December 21.

Santa Gives a Little More at Erin Mills

At Erin Mills Town Centre, Santa will be giving more than just gifts under the tree – but he’s looking for shoppers to help him.

Santa’s Festival of Giving is about giving back. Over November and December, Santa and his elves will give up their Sundays to a series of events that will help out several non-profits. Each event is either ticketed or Pay-What-You-Can, with proceeds going to one of the groups.

Santa will preside over several events, including the center’s Arrival Brunch for Santa, where kids can enjoy a tasty breakfast, entertainment, crafts and Elf Training. Give Green has Santa’s elves helping kids make eco-friendly Christmas decorations that will decorate the Heart House Hospice. The Gingerbread House Give lets families build and take home their own gingerbread houses while supporting Habitat for Humanity’s home-building efforts. Music fans can Give with Glee with holiday mashups led by the elves and CD and DVD giveaways while supporting the Peel Boys and Girls Club. And the Big Toy Give is a classic toy collection with a twist – Santa is coming to collect the donations himself.

Feast Your Eyes on these Christmas Displays

You might have seen these before, but Christmas seems a good time for sharing.

Hildred’s Shopping Centre has some truly fantastic Christmas displays. And they’re all made by Deputy Centre Manager  Steve Andrews. They’re built from polystyrene, coated in cement and then painted. The displays won a Purple Apple in 2005, but they are updated every year. This year includes a 25 foot tall Sleeping Beauty’s castle, complete with characters. Click to view larger photos.
