On the Move: Steve Fawke

808otmMost of the time, our On the Move stories highlight happy tales of shopping centre managers or marketers moving into new positions. By necessity, however, each “hello” tends to follow a “goodbye.”

Broad Street Mall is saying goodbye to manager Steve Fawke as he prepares to take up a new role at Brunel Shopping Centre in Swindon. In his eight years at the helm of the Reading centre, Broad Street Mall has been overhauled and modernized, with all manner of new shops and new programs.

During his tenure Steve also became a well-known personality within Reading, and worked hard to promote the town’s position as one of the UK’s top twenty retailing centres, especially through Broad Street Mall’s championing of the Reading Retail Awards which has attracted over 3,600 entries in 2013.

Earlier this year Steve made the podium for Shopping Centre Magazine’s coveted award for the best UK Shopping Centre Manager, and Ivypark – which runs the centre as well as the offices at the adjacent Fountain House – is now on the hunt for a replacement of a similarly high calibre.

“Steve’s commitment to Broad Street Mall and Reading has been second to none as we’ve worked together to attract new businesses and ensure the centre remains at the heart of the community,” said Mark Hull, director at Ivypark.

“Although we’re sad to see Steve go he’s leaving Broad Street Mall in a great position for further growth and we look forward to appointing his successor in due course.”

Describing the move a ‘a tough decision’ Steve said that it had nonetheless felt like the right time for a new challenge:

“After eight years in Reading I’m extremely proud of what we’ve achieved at Broad Street Mall and am looking forward to seeing the centre go from strength to strength – albeit from a distance.”

“To have a great town centre you need a great team and it’s been a pleasure to work with a huge range of people both within the centre and across the town to make sure Reading as a whole continues to attract the shoppers, shops and businesses it needs to thrive.”

Congratulations on the new position, Steve, and good luck in the search for a new manager to Broad Street Mall.
