The BCSC Builds Strong Community Bonds with Talent Week
UK shopping centers have an opportunity to be part of something big this fall by working together with the BCSC (British Council of Shopping Centres) to put on a Talent Week and inspire youth in your area.
After two successful pilot years, Talent Week is rolling out nationally. The idea behind the initiative is to encourage young people in Britain to build aspirations and work toward them, as youth unemployment continues to worsen. Over a dozen shopping centers have signed on already, and the BCSC has options available for shopping centers that want a hand, or ideas for centers that want to build their own Talent Week event.
During Talent Week, which falls during half-term this October, centers will hold a series of events open to 13 to 21-year-olds in their communities. The events will bring together a number of partners and businesses which will showcase subjects such as creative media, health and beauty, science, retail, music, sport and engineering. Local colleges, careers guidance and apprenticeships will be there to offer advice on gaining the right qualifications and the best courses on offer. Shopping centers can work with local schools to get young people interested and involved in the event.
A vital part of the Talent Week package is the Talent Wall, which lets young people build a wall of “bricks” they create that express their own special talents.
