PETA Awards Portland Shopping Center
One US shopping center caught the attention of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) recently.
Fortunately, it wasn’t for an overabundance of fur coats or anything as messy as all that. The nameless shopping center in Portland, Oregon was recognized by the controversial organization for its Proggy award, which marks progressive businesses and organizations that fight animal cruelty.
The shopping center was recognized for its commitment to humane business. All the shops in the center are owned and operated by vegans, and they sell items like natural clothing and organic, healthful foods.
Other Proggy award winners for 2009 included a vegetarian day-care center, a fitness center that provides dog-sitting, and the video game The Sims 3, which encourages players to feed their Sims vegetarian meals.
