NRF Seeks To Demonstrate that Retail Means Jobs

We all know how important retail is to the economy, and how many jobs it creates – one in four in the U.S. market, to be specific. For some reason, though, those jobs are often seen as unimportant in the big talks about employment rates and saving the economy.

The National Retail Federation aims to change that. The organization plans to raise the profile of American retail with the launch of the This is Retail Nationwide Contest.

It’s asked that anyone who works in retail—from front-line workers to business owners—to create videos that tell their stories about retail and illustrate the opportunities in and the power of the industry.

In return, the NRF has prepared three prizes ranging from $10,000 to $25,000. The top twenty videos as chosen by a panel of industry experts will move on to public voting. There are a few specific requirements, like including mention of a particular theme like “Retail Powers America’s Economy,” or “Retail Drives Innovation.”

It’s a big task, but we’re sure there are people out there with great stories to tell. Here’s hoping they’re able to get the message across.
