ICSC Launches Property Efficiency Scorecard

1212scorecardAt last week’s RetailGreen Conference, the International Council of Shopping Centers launched an exciting new industry benchmark: the ICSC Property Efficiency Scorecard.

The organization has launched the Scorecard as the online sustainability management solution for shopping centers, tailored and designed by users and for users in the industry. It seeks to address the unique needs of landlords, owners and developers in capturing and assessing data about energy use, water consumption, recycling and waste, and green operating practices.

ICSC Chairman David J. LaRue had this to say about the tool: “ICSC is taking a leadership position in sustainability by launching the Property Efficiency Scorecard. In doing so, ICSC is providing members
with a framework to identify opportunities that improve shopping center environmental and financial performance.”

The Scorecard will help centers assess their performance date and measure it against standard metrics, benchmark buildings against industry peers, improve results and report to stakeholders.

It was developed by sustainability consulting firm Paladino in collaboration with ICSC members from around the world. A massive list of developers were involved in preparing the Scorecard, including Kimco Realty, Primaris Management, General Growth Properties, PREIT, Planigrupo, Equity One, Inc., Inland American Retail Management, LLC, Inc., Macerich, Vornado Realty Trust, The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Ltd., Oxford Properties Group, IvanhoƩ Cambridge Inc., Westfield Properties, Kemper Development Company, and DDR.
