The ICSC Foundation Recognizes Carren Ballenger

The ICSC Foundation has announced the first recipient of its Mary Lou Fiala Fellowship. Carren Ballenger of Dallas, Texas has been selected to receive the fellowship, and will be honored as the Fiala Fellow on May 24, 2010 in Las Vegas during ICSC’s RECon.

As part of her one-year fellowship, Carren will pursue a project designed to benefit and promote the retail real estate industry. The fellowship provides a one-year mentorship with an industry leader, a course of study at the John T. Riordan School of Professional Development, an invitation to RECon, and speaking engagements throughout the year.

Launched earlier this year, the Mary Lou Fiala Fellowship recognizes an outstanding professional under the age of 30 who demonstrates a commitment to retail real estate, and has the potential to make a lasting contribution to the industry. The fellowship was made possible by a gift from Regency Centers to the ICSC Foundation in honor of Mary Lou Fiala, who has been president and COO of Regency Centers Corporation and is a renowned industry expert.

Carren is a tenant consultant with Open Realty Advisors. She’s worked previously as a marketing manager and lease analyst in New York. She’s also a member “Deals in Heels,” a passionate and determined group of women who encourage the growth of the real estate community. For her many accomplishments to date, the ICSC recognizes her as a rising star in the industry. All Fiala Fellows are required to carry out a project that promotes retail real estate and the ICSC Foundation Fiala Fellowship program, and if you’d like to see how Carren spends this year, look for her end-of-year report project summary in Shopping Centers Today next spring.
