Erin Mills’ Birthday Transformation
Erin Mills Town Centre is heading into an exciting time: a $100 million transformation, the center’s first major renovation since it opened in 1989.
“In celebration of our upcoming 25th anniversary, we want to give our customers a world class shopping experience” said Nance MacDonald, the center’s vice president. “We conducted extensive research and listened closely to our present and potential customers’ feedback. It was clear they were not looking for ‘bigger’ but a ‘better’ more enhanced shopping experience, showcasing retailers that deliver trendy, aspirational brands. We were inspired by their comments and plan to deliver beyond their expectations.”
Delivering beyond expectations includes a redevelopment characterized by a sleek, contemparary design—a clean international style. The center’s clock tower will be succeeded by an iconic glass sphere 283 feet in circumference that will pierce through the roof into the shopping centre’s central court area. Skylights will be replaced with modern clerestory windows for even more natural light.
The main court will also see major changes, with an awe-inspiring infinity pool surrounded by contemporary communal seating. The center plans to use this as a backdrop for major public events that will help bring its community together, and the fountain and pool can become a stage as needed.
One of the most exciting changes for shoppers will be a reimagining of the center’s food court. It will be rethought, reworked and reborn—significantly larger, with two storeys of eateries to entice shoppers at the center’s main entrance behind a 54-foot clear glass grand entrance. The new food court will also feature an inviting outdoor patio with views of downtown Mississauga.
