Albert Sussman International Community Support Award Finalists

A few weeks ago, we told you about the 2010 United States Community Support Award winner, Zona Rosa Shopping Center. Along with four other shopping centers, it’s a finalist for the ICSC’s Albert Sussman International Community Support Award. The winner of the international award will receive a $10,000 award for their partner charity.

The other four finalists include Meadowhall Shopping Centre in the United Kingdom, Southcentre Mall in Canada, Majid Al Futtaim Properties LLC of the United Arab Emirates, and Punta Carretas Shopping Center of Uruguay.

The Zona Rosa Foundation provides two yearly renewable scholarships to graduating seniors at the local high school and they support an astounding 50 local non-profits per year. “The Source at Meadowhall” has provided job training to over 2,000 people, including the long-term unemployed, and has also supported more than 250 businesses across South Yorkshire. Southcentre Mall’s “Everyday Angels” campaign provided funding that allowed Inn from the Cold to run its shelter, and many homelessness support programs. Majid Al Futtaim Properties’ “Make A Difference” campaign resulted in more than 70,000 items being donated to charity. And Punta Carretas Shopping Center raised USD $82,674.00 with their campaign for Fundación Teletón – the largest contribution the organization has ever received from a business enterprise.

These are all great causes, and it will certainly be a challenge for the judges to choose an overall winner. The 2010 award will be presented during ICSC’s Night of the Stars as part of the Best-of-the-Best Awards at RECon in Las Vegas, Nev. on May 23, 2010. Good luck to all the finalists!
