Glendale Galleria Begins Redevelopment Project
Glendale Galleria has just begun a massive redevelopment project, helmed by its selection for Design Architect, Kevin Kennon Architects, and Executive Architect, ELS Architecture and Urban Design.
Over the course of the next year, the two companies will redesign the center. They plan to incorporate a balanced combination of aesthetic and functional improvements to refresh and update the center’s brand. They’ll also modernize its look, improve signage visibility, and enhance the center’s circulation and access both inside and out.
“Glendale Galleria is looking for a fresh, upscale and modern design that will be particularly alluring to its shoppers – an aesthetic that will provide a crisp, invigorating, new identity for the center,” says Jamie Rusin of ELS Architecture and Urban Design. “Managing traffic flow and circulation within the center in an energized and aesthetically pleasing new way will also strengthen Glendale Galleria’s ability to appeal to the kinds of cutting-edge tenants the center has long been famous for attracting.”
The center will be freshened up from top to bottom, starting with tile floors with pixelated patterns in featured locations. Polished, elegant flooring also will be installed throughout the center. New elevators, hand railings, chandeliers and other details will brighten things up.
There are larger projects afoot as well. The reconstruction of the Central Avenue Plaza will create an open-air, outdoor dining and gathering place for the center, and an inviting and upscale main entrance will be created. New signage and graphics will be placed both in and out of the center to provide better visibility for pedestrians and drivers. The food court area is to be renovated and modernized, and new family restrooms are to be brought in.
The centrepiece of the renovations will be a a new 120,000-square-foot Bloomingdale’s store, specifically tailored to the center and it’s distinctive customer base.
“The renovation will add so many fantastic improvements and aesthetic updates to Glendale Galleria,” says Larry Martin, senior general manager at Glendale Galleria. “When all is complete, our customers will enjoy a more modern ambience, enhanced shopping experience, and of course, Bloomingdale’s, our new upscale department store that will offer Glendale shoppers the most desirable merchandise across every category.”
