Warm Up Your Heart

1112warmup.gifIt’s always nice to see a great idea gain traction. The Big Boston Warm-Up aims to gather warm coats for every homeless person in Boston, and this year Land’s End is backing the effort nation wide.

By the end of November, the Warm-Up aims to collect 7681 coats for Boston – one for each homeless man, woman and child in the city. And it’s collecting at Land’s End locations in malls across the country as well. The program’s website is lovely (though noisy – turn off your speakers if you’re at work). It tracks donations in Boston with an animated chart that highlights information about the homeless. It also tracks donations at individual malls across the country. And part of the web presence is a great customizable video that makes you feel really good about donating a coat.

Land’s End is also offering 20% off the purchase of a new coat at its stores for those who donate. And the company has set up an installation in Boston with 768 figures (one for every ten homeless people in the city). As coats are donated in Boston, the figures will be given warm red hearts to symbolize the warmth being brought to those ten homeless people.
