Village Pointe Plants Hope For the Future

October is a very pink month for many shopping centers, but this month Village Pointe went a bit further than most in its Breast Cancer Awareness efforts.

The lifestyle center sought to remind shoppers that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetimes, so it launched the “One in Eight” campaign. For an ambitious start, it commissioned an 8-foot tall fiberglass pink ribbon that is displayed on the center’s clock tower. Retailers also got on board with the center’s new colors: pink ribbon static clings were placed in store windows, and many retailers sold pink ribbon lapel pins to raise funds for Alegent Health’s Image Recovery Center, which provides free wigs, skin care, prosthetic products and counseling for patients going through chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

The center teamed up with Alegent Health to hold its Breast Health Day on October 9th. Information booths were set up around the center staffed with medical professionals who met with women and their families on a one-on-one basis. Women were also able to book mammogram appointments on the spot. Pink giveaways and prizes (along with a center shopping spree) were on offer, and shoppers took home pink tulip bulbs, a perennial flower that will bloom each year to remind the recipient to book her annual mammogram.
