The Walnuts Sends Love in a Box this Valentine’s Day

You know that warm feeling of opening a card or package sent to you with care? Imagine how much more powerful it must be when you’re far from home and in dangerous situation.

Operation Shoe Box sends those warm feelings to UK service men and women in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the Walnuts Shopping Centre plans to help out. The center is asking shoppers to send a little Love in a Box to the troops for Valentine’s Day, and is organizing an appeal aimed to pull together 200 shoe boxes filled with useful and thoughtful items like deodorant, sweets, razors and wet wipes. Shoppers can also include personal messages with their boxes to give the recipients a bit of a morale boost.

Marketing this appeal as a Valentine’s Day effort is a nice touch. So many people have conflicted feelings about Valentine’s Day, and this gives them the chance to channel the spirit of the day into cheering up someone who probably needs it. Have you tried planning charity appeals for the holiday? How has it worked out for you?
