Queensbay Mall’s Eco-Friendly Month

321queensbayEarth Day may not be until next month, and Earth Hour is just 60 minutes this week, but Queensbay Mall has managed to turn eco-friendly fun into a full month’s affair.

First, it greened-up shoppers’ homes. Live plants are a great way to freshen up a home, and a nice reminder of the natural world even when you’re safely surrounded by walls. Shoppers who spent at least RM100 (approx. 32 USD) and had same-day receipts to prove it got to take home a fresh, live potted plant to love and care for.

The center also brought the kids on board with a paper-toy making contest. Reduce, reuse and recycle came into effect as they learned how to create their own toys and games from things around the house. There were also prizes to be had for a few creative creators.

The grown-ups are getting hands on too, with an eco-scrub making workshop later this week.

The big event is this Saturday, with a whole evening of Earth Hour celebration. The center is looking for 500 cyclists to get together and ride, and if it gets them it plans to donate RM 5000 to a charitable organization. There will also be a Zumba performance, live music and traditional Bornean dance.
