Paseo Colorado Hosts Pasadena Chalk Festival

Father’s Day weekend was extra special at Paseo Colorado this year as it hosted the 20th Annual Pasadena Chalk Festival. Over 600 chalk painters arrived to create murals across the pavement of the village-style shopping center, bringing in an audience of nearly 100,000 visitors.

The festival has plenty of public appeal. It’s known as the World’s Largest Street Painting Festival since Guinness World Record declared it so in 2010, and an event that big inevitably brings more along with it. For instance, Kids Chalkland was an opportunity for kids to make their own chalk drawings and Father’s Day cards. There was also a Chalk of Fame, with murals of famous movie posters, and an Artist Gallery with affordable, painted canvases from the festival’s artists available for auction.

All proceeds from the event went to Light Bringer Project, a Pasadena non-profit that’s dedicated to building community through the power of the arts.

Visitors and artists voted on the best of the murals, with top placements, best of show awards, technique and more. Pictured is the mural that took first place, Best of Festival and the Paseo Colorado People’s Choice Award Winner. It was created by artist Moe Notsu.
