Mall of Louisiana Helps Create Lifelong Readers
We don’t need to tell you how important it is to read aloud to children. But not everyone remembers just how important it is, the National Education Association, the Louisiana Association of Educators and Public Broadcasting Louisiana are taking to the mall for Read Across Louisiana this weekend.
Several malls are participating, including Mall of Louisiana, Alexandria Mall, and Mall St. Vincent. Local celebrities are coming to the malls to read stories aloud to children, and the centers have arranged literacy-themed giveaways and activities. It’s part of the lead up to the celebration of the anniversary of Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2nd. On that day, parents, educators and just about everyone are encouraged to read the Cat in the Hat to children.
Downtown Hammond is also getting in on the fun, with all sorts of Seuss Birthday activities, cake, green eggs and ham, crafts and reading around the clock. Downtown Merchants are joining in with activities and using red and white balloons to indicate their participation.
