Learning to Sell
Shopping centers offer a lot of opportunities for education, and many malls take advantage with mall schools and teen boards. Earlier this month, Bloomfield Shopping Centre gave students a chance to learn about an important part of the retail process firsthand.
Young Enterprise is a business and enterprise education charity that strives to teach students. This school year, it’s been working with students from a number of schools to help them run businesses they can be proud of. Local businesspeople volunteer their time to mentor the students, who elect a board of director for the business, fund and market the company, create and sell merchandise, and finally liquidate the company and report their results.
The students brought their businesses to Bloomfield Shopping Centre for the Young Enterprise Trade Fair, where they sold the products they’d researched, developed and marketed. The event was held just before Valentine’s Day, and many of the groups prepared seasonal offerings for shoppers to enjoy.
