Lakeside Gives Shoppers With Cancer a Boost

One of the reasons charity appeals to fight cancer are both effective and important for shopping centers is that they have a human connection: some of your shoppers may be affected by cancer themselves, and most know someone who is or has. These are the people we think of when we give money to fight cancer, or when we attend benefits and fundraisers. So this year as a Breast Cancer Awareness Month initiative, Lakeside Shopping Centre took its efforts directly to those members of its community most affected.

The center invited shoppers to nominate members of the community who are living with cancer. Lakeside is now working to select three of those nominees to receive a feel-good day of pampering. The chosen nominees will each get a consultation with Lakeside’s personal shopper, a make-up session, a fibre wig of their choice donated by a local wig specialist and a wig personalization appointment with a Toni & Guy consultant. Toni & Guy at Lakeside is a Strength in Style salon, working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to provide specialist support and advice on hair care for people affected by cancer.

Kylie Minor, Lakeside’s Marketing Manager, comments: “Two million people in the UK are living with cancer. If we can help just a few by treating them to a fantastic day out where they can escape the reality of the situation and feel really good about themselves, we’ll have achieved something to be proud of.”
