Jersey Gardens Goes Solar
Here’s a record worth beating: Jersey Gardens is about to have the largest single-roof top solar system in North America.
The solar array will produce 4.8 megawatts, offsetting the center’s power consumption by 11 percent. Jersey Gardens isn’t undertaking this task alone, however. Glimcher Realty Trust, the center’s owner, entered into partnerships with several companies to make this happen. Gerding Edlen was brought on to create a model for clean and effective energy development and management. Clean Focus Corporation finances and owns the system, and sells the power to the center at a pre-determined price, keeping costs down. And the system will be built by SunPower Corporation.
So not only will the solar system provide sustainable energy, it helps support a lot of green jobs.
