St. Lawrence Center has teamed up with the Northern New York Compassion Commission to offer a safe, welcoming place for teens within its walls.
‘The Union’ will be a drop-in center where teens can socialize with each other and take part in structured activities, like gaming, open-mic, movies and music lessons. The shopping center hopes that having a welcoming space for teens will encourage them to build new skills and meet new people rather than loiter in the food courts and halls.
This is a welcome idea in a time where so many malls have been forced to implement curfews and restrictions on teen shoppers. And it will benefit St. Lawrence Center, too, as marketing manager Tiffany Joy Greene points out. “The Union ” will provide a safe place where teens can interact and learn new skills and talents, and, ideally, help teens feel a stronger sense of community. Honestly, we want teens to feel loyalty and a sense of nostalgia to St. Lawrence Centre because we want these teens to keep coming back to St. Lawrence Centre as adults” said Greene.
