Hildreds Centre Launches Lifeboat Appeal

718hildredsThe Hildreds Shopping Centre is spending next week raising much-needed funds for a great cause: the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Lifeboat Week is a long-standing tradition for the center. In 1992, center staff created a 16-foot model of the Lincolnshire Poacher lifeboat. It’s been used since to raise awareness of the dangers of the sea and the hard work and dedication shown by the RNLI.

Says deputy center manager Steve Andrews, “This year in addition to the display, we will be turning Unit 16 into a pop-up RNLI shop complete with The Hildreds life-sized animated Jolly John Coxswain of the Skegness lifeboat – who will be telling the history of the lifeboat station in Skegness and even singing the odd sea shanty or two.”

The entertaining event will hopefully help the center bring in even more for the cause—it’s raised an outstanding £750,000 for the RNLI to date.

“The Hildreds Shopping Centre has a proud connection with the Skegness Lifeboat and has supported them ever since the Centre opened in 1988 – in fact one of our staff is a serving crew member on the lifeboat and we are proud to be associated with the organisation. We hope to get lots of people visiting, learning about the great work that the RNLI do in Skegness and across the UK, and even pop a penny or two into their collection tins,” added Steve.
