Gromit Unleashed at The Mall

725gromitEveryone loves Gromit. The quirky pup from Nick Park’s stop-motion animation Wallace & Gromit is known and loved worldwide. He’s got quite the license, and this summer it’s being used for quite the cause.

Gromit Unleashed is the creation of Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal for the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity and Aardman Animations. It’s a public art exhibition all around Bristol, with 80 statues of the dog that dot the landscape. The art trail takes visitors through many of the best bits of the city, and an accompanying app lets participants check in as they make their way to discovering all the Gromits on the trail. The app gives folks the chance to earn achievements, score their progress on leaderboards, and get an audio tour in the process.

According The Bristol Post, the app has done a great job on its own, with more than 20,000 downloads as of earlier this week. That’s over £8,500 for the charity appeal already. The

The Mall at Cribbs Causeway is a big part of the Gromit Unleashed project. It’s hosting two of the Gromits on the trail, including one designed by One Direction’s Zayn Malik. It’s also home to the Gromit Unleashed exhibition, which features iconic film sets and other memorable objects from the Wallace & Gromit mythos. Kids also have the chance to create their own clay aliens and cracking inventions.
