Dalton Park Shoppers Get Their Wellies Wet

306welliesDalton Park’s 55 acres of landscaped parkland came in very handy late last month, as the center hosted a fun-filled Welly Walk.

Wellies, for those unfamiliar with the term, are Wellington boots, or those big rubber rain boots—the perfect accompaniment to a late winter charity walk. The Welly Walk was a 1.5 kilometre fun walk around the wetlands at Dalton Park and into its high meadows.

A pair of wellies was something like a requirement. Not only are they good for keeping feet dry in soggy weather—they were also the centrepiece of the welly decorating competition. And of course, one can’t take part in welly wanging without them. That’s when you toss a welly just as far as you can in the hopes of getting the farthest.

The event was free, but participants were encouraged to raise sponsorship to benefit The Sick Children’s Trust. Everyone that attended received a goody bag, medal and certificate of participation.

“Dalton Park’s Welly Walk is a great way to have fun while raising money for a charity which provides essential support to families with sick children,” said Caroline O’Doherty, Campaign and Appeals Manager. “We encourage participants to tramp and splash their way around the trail, knowing each step they take is helping us support around 3,500 families in desperate need of a comfortable place to stay by their child’s bedside.”
