Coquitlam Centre Captures a SHARE Bear

620shareIt’s bear season in Coquitlam and its surrounding municipalities. Bears looking for food have been spotted in residential areas, an unfortunate situation for all involved. All, that is, except the Share Food Bank: it saw an opportunity in all the talk of bears behaving badly.

Share’s mascot is Share Bear, a fuzzy blue bear that has apparently grown as hungry as its real furry brethren. It too has been hunting the cities for food and getting far too acclimatized to humans, but it has a kinder fate awaiting it: capture and eventual release, assuming shoppers are ready to help.

This week Coquitlam Centre is hosting Feed & Free SHARE Bear. All day Thursday the center’s north-east parking lot will be a celebration of sharing as shoppers come together to help raise $10,000 in ‘bail money’ to free the blue fellow, and 10,000 pounds of food to keep him (and local families in need) fed for the summer.

The funds and food will go directly to Share Family and Community Services. While they’re donating, shoppers will be able to enjoy face painting, hanging out with the incarcerated Share bear, and a BBQ to boot.

Here’s the cute video a community TV station filmed to promote the event:
