Burlington Mall knows everyone can be an ecoHero


0319eco_1.gifCause Marketing: Cause Marketing is the art of combining your commercial brand with a non-profit issue. Cause marketing campaigns have years of history and range from relatively superficial tactical partnerships, to long-term, strategic alliances that penetrate deeply into business and nonprofit organizations.

Burlington Mall is encouraging shoppers to do more for the environment than turning the lights out for an hour. It wants shoppers to make a commitment for a year.

Shoppers can take the ecoHero pledge to be entered in a draw to win free electricity for a year. The pledge asks shoppers to commit to things like participating in Earth Hour, bike or walk whenever possible, use reusable bags, hang-dry clothes and turn off appliances when they’re not in use.

The Canadian shopping center is spreading the philosophy of “one simple thing” – that we can all make a difference if we start by changing one simple thing, and go from there.  It’s supporting this philosophy with a number of eco-events, aimed at water and energy conservation, student activism and more.

The program’s website offers smart ideas for those simple things we can all do to make a difference, too.
