Blood Bikes Visit the Octagon
The Octagon Shopping Centre is hosting an interesting scheme new to its community that may help save not only lives, but money urgently needed to save lives elsewhere.
It’s called Blood Bikes, and it is, more or less, as it sounds: The organization aims to use bikes to transport blood, mothers’ breast milk and other medical products across Derbyshire and the East Midlands. It supports the NHS trust, and will lower the costs of transporting these items dramatically.
Linda Brailsford, Treasurer of Derbyshire Blood Bikes commented: “I know that in this economic climate, money is tight, but we would love to have people stop by, even if it’s just to hear more about the cause. Our charity is run entirely by volunteers, so people may feel they have a particular skill or time they can offer. Everything is appreciated and we are so thankful to those that have already donated their time and money, and would like to invite those that haven’t, to take part.”
She added: “We were only granted charity status in August 2011, so we are still a very young charity; this means that we have to try very hard to get our name out and promote our cause. This Saturday will provide us a perfect opportunity to educate the people of Burton-upon-Trent, in what we do and how they can help.”
